Credit Counseling and Bankruptcy – Some Helpful Tips
We are all now in a really volatile time in history, as it pertains to finances. Many of my friends and family members are so much in debt that it’s a wonder if they will ever get out. Below are some of the tips I share with them that can help deal with credit using credit counseling.
It is highly advisable for you to complete your pre-bankruptcy credit counseling session within 180 days before applying for bankruptcy. Your application will be dismissed if the session is not completed.
One of the major reasons for filling for bankruptcy is to get relief from your creditors. But remember that this relief will elude you if your application is dismissed due to not completing the pre-bankruptcy credit counseling session.
So, it’s really very important and worth highlighting – in order to get relief from your creditors through bankruptcy, there is need to complete the required pre-bankruptcy credit counseling session before applying. An incomplete session will make the court deny your application for bankruptcy.
Before you can file for bankruptcy, it is mandatory for the credit counseling session to be completed by an approved credit counselor. Credit counseling services are approved by the department of Justice. Completing it with an unapproved counselor will make the court deny your application for bankruptcy.
One of the ways to get your application for bankruptcy rejected by the court is to complete your credit counseling session with an unapproved counselor. You should make sure that the counselor is approved by the Department justice before commencing it.
Also, make sure you do your due diligence to find out what really is worth knowing to help you get the best from your sessions with a counselor. And remember – no matter what else is said, you are the most important factor in whether you get the best help from your counselor or not. So, give yourself credit and do all you can, to help yourself get out from the rut called credit!
